Man Shot by Police South of Brisbane – Details
A man was shot by police in Logan Central, south of Brisbane, on Saturday evening after allegedly threatening officers with a knife. Emergency services were called to Ewing Road just before 6 p.m. Following reports of a man making threats while armed, according to a statement released by the Queensland Police Service.
Police attempted to engage with the man upon arrival, but he allegedly approached them with the weapon, leading officers to discharge their firearm. First aid was immediately administered by officers at the scene before the man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment, police said.
No officers or members of the public sustained injuries during the incident. A crime scene was declared, and authorities stated there was no ongoing risk to the public. The Queensland Police Service confirmed that the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission, is investigating the shooting.
The incident occurred as a separate, unrelated shooting took place earlier this week in Brisbane’s east, where a 21-year-old man was shot dead by police during a welfare check on Thurston Street in Tingalpa on Tuesday. Acting Chief Superintendent Heath McQueen stated officers were called to the address after concerns were raised regarding the man’s mental health. According to McQueen, the man armed himself with a knife and threatened police, resulting in the shooting. Paramedics were unable to revive the man despite providing immediate first aid.
Police union president Shane Prior reported that officers had attempted to employ a taser on the man in Tingalpa, but it proved ineffective in subduing him. One officer sustained a minor injury during that incident and received treatment at the scene. McQueen emphasized the inherent dangers faced by police officers across the state on a daily basis.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding either shooting. The Ethical Standards Command will continue its investigation into the Logan Central shooting, while the Tuesday incident in Tingalpa remains under review.
