Man Dies Following Rescue Attempt at woodlawn Lake
SAN ANTONIO, TX – The man who died Tuesday after being pulled from Woodlawn Lake has been identified as 34-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office.Hernandez was rescued from the lake shortly after 5:30 p.m. and pronounced dead at University Hospital.
The incident unfolded as witnesses reported a man struggling in the water near the lake’s boat ramp. San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) crews responded quickly and recovered Hernandez, initiating life-saving measures before transporting him to the hospital. While the circumstances leading to Hernandez entering the water remain under investigation,the tragedy underscores the dangers of recreational activities and the swift response capabilities of local emergency services.
Woodlawn Lake, a popular destination for walking, jogging, and fishing, sees notable public use, notably during warmer months. The SAFD regularly reminds visitors to exercise caution around the water and to be aware of potential hazards. This is not the first incident at the lake; in 2019, a similar rescue occurred, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance.
