Man blocks SBS Transit bus on Beach Road for phone

October 19, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

On the afternoon of Oct. 14, a man ran across a road to stand in front of bus 56, obstructing traffic because he had left his phone behind.

The obstruction brought vehicles to a standstill after the individual ran across a road in Bras Basah to intercept the transit vehicle. Footage of the incident, captured by a nearby car’s dashcam, circulated widely on social media via the Complaint Singapore Instagram page, mothership.sg reported.

The Disputed Location Along the Thoroughfare

While initial social media captions placed the confrontation on Bras Basah Road, operating company SBS Transit clarified the exact geography. A spokesperson for SBS Transit stated in response to queries from mothership.sg that the incident actually occurred along Beach Road.

The sequence began when the man ran across the bus lane in an attempt to board the vehicle. The bus had stopped at a red traffic light situated in the fourth lane of a five-lane carriageway, according to the SBS Transit spokesperson. Because that specific spot was not a designated boarding point, the bus captain kept the doors closed and instructed the individual to board at the official bus stop ahead.

Police Remove Man Who Blocked Bus for Phone

The situation escalated when instructions to move were ignored. The man stood firmly in front of the vehicle, blocking its path even after the traffic signal turned green, according to Wu.

Law enforcement officers were called to the scene to handle the obstruction. Police arrived to assist, allowing the delayed public transport service to resume its journey approximately 15 minutes later. Mothership.sg confirmed through reporting that the man’s extreme measure stemmed from leaving his mobile phone behind on the vehicle.
