Malaysian Influencer Faces Arrest After Risky Sea Stunt
Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia – A Malaysian influencer is in custody following a safety inquiry into a staged car photoshoot conducted on a floating platform at sea. The incident, which involved towing a luxury vehicle on a makeshift platform, prompted authorities to seize both the platform and a vessel involved in the operation.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) intercepted the platform approximately 16 nautical miles northwest of Kuala Terengganu, near Pulau Bidong, on Wednesday afternoon. The stunt drew immediate scrutiny due to meaningful safety concerns, highlighting a growing trend of influencers prioritizing visually striking content over established maritime regulations.Maritime Captain Hamiludin Che Awang, Terengganu Maritime Director, stated that the platform “was built without safety equipment, which could pose a risk to the crew, passengers and other water users.” Images released by the New Straits Times show the platform featuring a structure resembling a house,complete with windows and furniture.
according to Captain Hamiludin, investigators discovered a passenger boat was used to tow the platform, and another accompanying boat was operating without a valid license from the Department of Marine.
