Mahindra Aims for Higher Heavy Truck Market Share via SML Integration and Network Expansion

August 14, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Mahindra Truck and Bus has launched the AI-powered BLAZO i-TRK to capture a 5% market share in India’s heavy commercial vehicle segment, according to Vinod Sahay, President of Aerospace, Trucks and Buses. The company plans to expand its dealership network and leverage SML Mahindra as it targets higher market share in key heavy truck segments.

Decoding the Commercial Vehicle Revenue Pool

Heavy trucks represent about 40 to 45 percent of the overall truck and bus industry by volume. Yet, they comprise nearly 60 percent of total industry revenue, making this segment a critical profit engine for commercial manufacturers. According to Vinod Sahay, President – Aerospace, Trucks & Buses, and Chairman – SML Mahindra and Mahindra Advanced Technologies, Mahindra currently holds roughly 3 to 3.5 percent of the heavy truck market. The company’s immediate strategic benchmark is to claw back to the 5 percent threshold it previously commanded.

To achieve its volume and revenue goals, the company plans to deepen its integration with SML Mahindra.

Edge Computing and the BLAZO i-TRK Launch

Technology integration forms the core of Mahindra’s market recapture strategy. The newly launched BLAZO i-TRK introduces automated drive-mode selection driven by an onboard dual-core AI chip utilizing a 10-nanometer architecture, as detailed in reports from The Economic Times. Unlike cloud-dependent systems, this edge-computing processor evaluates GPS inputs, vehicle load, engine RPM, and road gradients locally to optimize fuel consumption without requiring manual gear adjustments from drivers.

The powertrain enhancements deliver a reported 15 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over older baseline models. According to company statements cited by ET Auto, these operational savings can generate up to ₹15 lakh in additional profit per truck over a five-year lifecycle. Backing these efficiency gains, Mahindra offers a 48-hour uptime guarantee backed by financial compensation of ₹10,000 per day if a vehicle remains off the road beyond the committed servicing window.

Corporate Expansion and Strategic Growth Gems

Beyond heavy trucks, Mahindra & Mahindra leadership has identified medium and heavy commercial vehicles alongside last-mile mobility as vital scalable growth segments. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of the Auto and Farm Sector at M&M, noted during media interactions covered by Tractor Junction that the firm remains fully open to global partnerships and collaborations to scale its market footprint.

The broader corporate roadmap envisions bringing operations under one company. Current combined commercial operations generate approximately ₹6,000 crore in revenue with a 6 percent market share. Management targets an expansion to ₹12,500 crore in revenue and a 10 to 12 percent market share by fiscal year 2031, with longer-range projections pointing toward ₹25,000 to 28,000 crore by FY36.
