Camryn,Baxter,Cogger Secure Week 5 Field Hockey Accolades
Central Michigan’s Mallory Camryn adn Ashley Cogger,alongside App State’s Sophia Baxter,have been recognized for their outstanding performances,earning MAC Field Hockey Offensive,Defensive,and Goalkeeper of the Week honors,respectively,for games played the week of October 2nd,2023. The awards acknowledge pivotal roles in securing crucial conference victories for their teams.
Camryn spearheaded the Chippewa offense to consecutive MAC wins – the program’s first as 2020. The senior forward scored in a 2-1 victory over Ball State and followed up with a hat trick and an assist in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win against Ohio. Notably, Camryn scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Ohio just two minutes into the period, and also tallied the Chippewas’ first two goals of that contest. She also recorded an assist on the goal that forced overtime with 31 seconds remaining in regulation.
Baxter anchored App State’s defense while simultaneously contributing offensively, earning her the Defensive Player of the Week title. The junior midfielder/defender scored a goal in both conference wins against Bellarmine and #18 james Madison. Defensively, she helped secure a shutout against Bellarmine, holding them without a single shot. Against nationally ranked James Madison, Baxter was instrumental in limiting the Dukes to just eight shots on goal, compared to App State’s 16.
Cogger secured the Goalkeeper of the Week award after a dominant weekend in the cage for central Michigan. Entering a 1-0 deficit against Ball State at the start of the second half, Cogger preserved the Chippewa lead, making five saves to help secure a 2-1 win. She then earned the win in Sunday’s 5-4 overtime victory over ohio, recording nine saves.
