Lyon Shootings: Drug Trafficking Link Suspected in Double Incident
Two separate shooting incidents unfolded Friday evening in the Lyon metropolitan area, leaving one man dead and another critically injured, according to police reports.
The first shooting occurred around 7:00 PM on the Boulevard de la Bataille de Stalingrad in Villeurbanne, near the Tonkin district. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his right leg and left hand. He was transported to Édouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement in critical condition.
Less than thirty minutes later, a second shooting was reported on Boulevard Lénine in Vénissieux. A man was found with gunshot wounds in the hallway of an apartment building. Police confirmed he died shortly after arriving at the scene.
Both locations were quickly secured by police, firefighters, and officers from the Brigade Anti-Criminalité (BAC). Investigations are underway, and authorities have not yet released information regarding potential motives or suspects in either incident.
Édouard Herriot Hospital, where the first victim was taken, is a major public hospital center in Lyon. The hospital is named after Édouard Herriot, a prominent French politician who served as the city’s mayor from 1905 to 1940 and again from 1945 to 1957. He also held several national positions, including President of the Council of Ministers, and was a member of the French Academy.
The investigations into both shootings are ongoing, and authorities have not provided a timeline for when further information will be released.
