Lyon News: Villeurbanne & Caluire – February 15, 2026 – Le Progrès

February 15, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A man in a wheelchair was killed with a bladed weapon in Lyon, France, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, according to reports from Le Progrès. The victim has been identified as Ashur Sarnaya, an Iraqi Christian.

Police have arrested a suspect in Italy in connection with the murder, Le Progrès reported. Details regarding the suspect’s identity and the circumstances of the arrest have not been released.

The attack occurred in Lyon, with reports also referencing Villeurbanne and Caluire as areas of relevance to the unfolding investigation. The motive for the killing remains unclear.

France recently extended traffic bans in designated “green zones,” according to Trans.INFO, though the connection to the Lyon murder, if any, has not been established. The extension of these bans is reportedly due to environmental concerns.

Public transportation in Lyon includes buses, the metro, and trams, according to Thisislyon. There is currently no indication of disruption to public transport services related to the investigation.
