Luxembourg COVID-19 Vaccine: 6 Compensated for Adverse Effects
The Luxembourgish state has been ordered to compensate six individuals for damages linked to COVID-19 vaccinations, according to reports from Luxemburger Wort. The confirmations come as the country continues to assess claims of adverse reactions following a widespread vaccination campaign that saw approximately 1.4 billion doses administered within the nation.
To date, 45 individuals have approached the Ministry of Health seeking indemnification for potential side effects experienced after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Of these, eight cases have been recognized by an independent expert as establishing a causal link between the vaccination and the reported harm. The Ministry of Health has forwarded six of these cases to the Ministry of State to initiate the compensation process, with four resulting in payouts to claimants.
This marks an increase from April 2025, when four cases of vaccine-related harm had been officially recognized, and three individuals were deemed eligible for state compensation. Prior to that, in October 2024, a causal link had only been established in a single case, with the possibility of compensation still under review.
The legal framework for such compensation is outlined in the law of July 4, 2000, concerning the state’s liability in matters of vaccination. This legislation stipulates that indemnification may be sought when a “serious adverse effect” results in death or permanent physical disability. The state assumes responsibility for the portion of damages not covered by social security.
Individuals seeking compensation must first pursue their claims through the social security system before approaching the state. In the event of a vaccinated person’s death, the claim must be submitted by their surviving family members via a form available on Guichet.lu.
The Ministry of Health has not disclosed the specific nature of the damages claimed by the individuals who have received compensation, citing data protection concerns. Details regarding the amount of the indemnities paid out have also not been released.
