Luis Enrique Jokes About Ousmane Dembele Holiday Comments After PSG Win

October 16, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé joked that he might request extended time off after a 4-2 victory against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, prompting head coach Luis Enrique to jokingly label the player “the boss.”

The Managerial Reaction to Dembélé’s Post-Match Comments

Vibes remain high at Paris Saint-Germain following a strong midweek European performance at the Etihad Stadium. According to PSG Talk, Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes were both given the weekend off following the international break, missing a domestic fixture against Le Mans before returning to face Manchester City. After the match, Dembélé remarked that he might consider asking for more holidays given the positive result. When asked about the comments in a press conference, Luis Enrique responded with a smile, as reported by Goal.com, ESPN, and Yahoo Sports. “He’s the boss! He wants a vacation if we give him a vacation. So he’ll get a vacation. But he jokes around all the time,” Luis Enrique stated. The manager added that he loves the player’s passion for football and noted that while the remark was clearly a joke, he remains open to giving players what they want.

Donnarumma Faces Paris Saint-Germain After Transfer to Manchester City

The fixture also marked a reunion between Paris Saint-Germain and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2025. Donnarumma spent four years in Paris, winning four consecutive Ligue 1 titles and the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League before entering the final year of his contract. Rather than risk losing the Italy international for free, Paris Saint-Germain completed a transfer valued at approximately €27m, while other reports noted the fee for his replacement was €40m. To replace Donnarumma, Paris Saint-Germain brought in Lucas Chevalier from Lille. Ahead of the encounter, Luis Enrique addressed his relationship with his former player. “We know him well and we know that it will be very difficult to score goals because he is amongst the best goalkeepers in the world, without any doubt,” Luis Enrique told Sky Sports. Luis Enrique acknowledged the difficulty of the departure, describing Donnarumma as a marvellous person and expressing happiness at seeing him maintain his level at Manchester City.
