Lucerne Shooting: Witnesses Detail Jewelry Store Attack & Injury
A 31-year-old Swiss man is in critical condition after being shot at a jewelry store in Luzern, Switzerland, on Friday afternoon. Police are searching for the perpetrators, who fled the scene in a white van.
The shooting occurred on Baselstrasse in Luzern around 2:20 PM local time, according to the Luzern Police. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries and immediately provided first aid before he was transported to a hospital.
Initial investigations suggest the attack was targeted at a jewelry shop. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing two men fleeing in a white van heading away from the city center, according to 20 Minuten. The van was later located in the Littau district, but the suspects had already escaped.
One witness told Blick, a Swiss news outlet, that they saw a man running from the scene with a bloody abdomen. Photos published by Blick show what appear to be bullet holes in the storefront of the jewelry shop.
The victim has been identified by Blick as the owner of the jewelry store. His sister told the news outlet that he had been shot in the stomach and was undergoing surgery.
The Luzern Police are appealing for witnesses who may have observed the shooting or the subsequent escape of the perpetrators. They are specifically requesting information regarding the white van and any suspicious activity in the Längweiher / Udelboden / Zimmeregg areas. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police at +41 41 248 81 17.
