Kuala Lumpur – Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has refuted claims of a service disruption on the Kelana Jaya Line of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, attributing a series of train withdrawals on Wednesday morning to routine maintenance and safety checks. The rail operator issued a statement responding to reports and social media posts that indicated potential breakdowns and commuter frustration following multiple alerts about trains being taken out of service.
The alerts, broadcast via Rapid KL’s social media channels, concerned train withdrawals affecting key stations including Gombak and Masjid Jamek, prompting concerns among passengers about a recurrence of recent disruptions. Earlier this week, the Kelana Jaya Line experienced a significant double disruption, fueling anxieties about the line’s reliability.
Though, Rapid Rail asserted that train services continued to operate according to scheduled peak-hour frequencies, with no unusual congestion reported at stations or on board trains. The company explained that the temporary removal of trains for minor repairs – including issues with air conditioning systems and other onboard equipment – is a standard operating procedure (SOP) designed to ensure passenger comfort, safety, and overall service quality.
“Trains may be temporarily withdrawn for minor repairs, including air conditioning performance issues or other onboard systems,” the statement read. “This measure is taken to ensure passenger comfort, safety and service quality are consistently maintained.”
Rapid Rail emphasized that replacement trains are deployed quickly whenever a train is taken offline, maintaining consistent headways – the time intervals between arriving trains – during peak hours. This, the company claims, ensures that service reliability remains unaffected. According to a report by The Edge Malaysia, the train withdrawals were indeed part of the established SOP.
The operator attributed the public’s alarm to a misinterpretation of its communication strategy, stating that proactively posting real-time alerts about train withdrawals is intended to keep passengers informed of minor operational adjustments. “We emphasise that operational transparency should not be interpreted as a service disruption,” the statement continued.
Rapid Rail maintains its commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient operations, and to disseminating accurate information through official channels. Paul Tan reported that Rapid KL confirmed no overall service disruption despite the train withdrawals and resulting crowding.
As of Thursday, February 27, 2026, Rapid Rail has not announced any further unscheduled train withdrawals on the Kelana Jaya Line. The company has not indicated any plans to alter its communication strategy regarding routine maintenance procedures.
