Loyola Chicago’s Kasun Finishes Strong at Highlands Invitational
HIGHLANDS RANCH,Colo. – Loyola chicago men’s golf concluded competition at the Highlands Invitational on Sunday, with Sebastian Kasun leading the Ramblers to an 11th-place finish in a challenging field.Kasun’s notable performance,securing a 15th-place individual result,highlighted the team’s progress as they navigate the early season.
The Ramblers finished the three-round tournament at +33 with a total score of 897 (300-299-298). While acknowledging the difficulty of the course and the strength of the competition, head coach Peter Pougnet emphasized the team’s resilience and potential for growth. This event serves as a crucial early-season test for the program, providing valuable experience as they build towards their fall schedule and aim for a competitive showing in the Missouri Valley Conference.
kasun carded an even score of 216 (75-71-70) over the three rounds, consistently improving with each day of play. He finished the final two rounds under par and recorded 13 birdies – the ninth-moast in the tournament.
“It was great to see Sebastian perform the way he did,” Pougnet said. “Finishing in the top-20 in this field is really impressive. I know he feels like he left a lot of shots out there, but we will regroup this week and continue to work. Really proud of him.”
Jackson Overton tied for 48th with a score of 227 (74-77-76), while Charlie Kulwin and Dori Lee both finished tied for 56th at 230.Kulwin’s scores where 81-76-73, and Lee posted 73-75-82. Ryan Walsh rounded out the team’s performance, finishing 72nd with a total of 237 (78-80-79).
Loyola Chicago will use the upcoming week to prepare for the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Miami (Ohio), scheduled for september 29-30.
