Daejeon, South Korea – Hanwha Eagles became the first Korean Baseball Institution (KBO) team to reach one million in attendance this season, celebrating the milestone during their 5-0 victory over the SSG Landers on August 24th. This achievement comes in the Eagles’ first year playing at their new homestoral stadium.
The Eagles’ win over SSG marked their 50th home game of the season. Simultaneously occurring, the league-leading LG Twins continued their winning streak, defeating the KIA Tigers 6-2 in Gwangju for their fifth consecutive victory and handing KIA their fourth straight loss.
In Daegu, the Samsung Lions secured a 12-8 win against the Kiwoom Heroes, fueled by a strong performance from Lee Byung-hun, who drove in five runs, including a grand slam. This victory moved Samsung to seventh place in the KBO standings, while KIA fell to eighth.
Several notable individual achievements were recorded during Saturday’s games. Lotte Giants secured a season series win against the Doosan Bears, beginning with a rally led by Yoo Kang-nam in the eighth inning. Hanwha’s Son Ah-seop reached a historic milestone, becoming the first player in KBO history to record 2,600 career hits, also in the eighth inning. LG’s Moon Sung-joo, who had not hit a home run in the previous season, added to his season total with a home run in Saturday’s game, bringing his total to two for the year.
Samsung’s Lee Byung-hun is currently batting .614 with a .973 on-base plus slugging (OPS) against the Seoul-based teams - Doosan Bears, Kiwoom Heroes, and Hanwha Eagles.
