Radio Host Lori Voornas Retires After 32 Years

Morning radio in Maine is about to sound different. After a remarkable 32 years entertaining listeners, beloved host Lori Voornas of “Jeff and Lori” on WHOM 94.9 FM is stepping away from the microphone, leaving a legacy of laughter and connection.

A Fond Farewell

Voornas shared the news on Monday morning, indicating her last broadcast will be Friday, June 27. The radio personality also hosts the weekend events segment on Maine’s Total Coverage. She cited significant personal changes as a major factor in her decision, along with turning 60 this September.

Voornas clarified she was not being pushed out. She chose to leave on her own terms. Starting in 1993 on 93.1 WMGX with “The Willy and Lori Show”, she’s earned many awards from the Maine Association of Broadcasters.

“I’ve had a lot going on in my personal life that I haven’t shared with you all. I’m healthy and happy, but my life has been in a whirlwind for some time now. That played a big part in this decision. I also am turning 60 this September, and I thought long and hard about the last chapter of my life. It doesn’t include a 4 a.m. alarm clock,”

Voornas looks forward to new possibilities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows about 20% of the U.S. population is aged 60 or older, representing a huge demographic shift in the workforce (BLS 2024).

Looking Ahead

The radio host is unsure of her next move. However, she expressed interest in working in a bakery. Voornas also plans to be back for Cans for a Cure 2025. She calls the event, a tribute to her mother who died from breast cancer 11 years ago, her “baby.”
