Construction Underway on Legacy Village, a 15,000-Resident Neighbourhood in East London
London, Ontario – Construction has begun on Legacy Village, a sprawling new community poised to transform the city’s east end. The ambitious project, spearheaded by local developer Old Oak Properties, will eventually house up to 15,000 people and bring 8,400 housing units to the area surrounding Highbury Avenue North and Oxford Street East.
The 20-year growth is strategically located along the East London Link bus rapid transit line and represents a meaningful reinvestment in the city by a third-generation London firm. “It’s very exciting to continue to re-invest in the London community that is our home,” said Old Oak Properties CEO Robert Bierbaum. The first phase of construction focuses on a 32-story tower near the intersection of Highbury and Oxford.
Legacy Village distinguishes itself by integrating historical elements from the former hospital site. Heritage-designated buildings – including the Chapel of Hope, horse stable, infirmary, and recreational hall – will be incorporated into the new neighbourhood’s design, preserving a link to the area’s past.
