Around 100 firefighters responded to a meaningful shop fire in Forest Hill, southeast London, late Tuesday night. Crews were first called to the scene on Southend Road at 9.22pm, with the fire quickly escalating and impacting surrounding buildings.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported the blaze was brought under control by 11.44pm,though crews continued working through the night to fully extinguish it. A 25-meter cordon remains in place, and authorities are advising the public to avoid the area due to ongoing traffic and rail disruption. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution, but there have been no reports of injuries. Station commander Anthony Lewis stated, “Significant traffic disruption can be expected in the Forest Hill area, including in the A205 South Circular Road. Rail services via Forest Hill station are also being affected as a result of this fire.”
LFB confirmed that ten fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, with crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, New Cross, and surrounding stations attending. The incident highlights the potential for rapid escalation in urban fires and the importance of swift emergency response to protect both life and property.
