London Antisemitism: Attacks on Jewish Ambulances & Iran Link Investigated

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Arsonists targeted ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer organization outside a synagogue in North London early Tuesday, prompting a counter-terrorism investigation and raising concerns about rising antisemitism in the United Kingdom. The vehicles, operated by Hatzola, a Jewish ambulance service, were set ablaze in the Stamford Hill area, a predominantly Orthodox Jewish neighborhood.

Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime and are exploring a potential link to Iran, according to multiple reports. Counter-terror police are leading the inquiry, examining whether the attack was directed by individuals connected to Tehran. The investigation follows intelligence suggesting Iranian “sleeper cells” may have been activated, according to reports in the Australian Financial Review.

The arson attack involved two ambulances, both of which were significantly damaged. Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. The incident occurred outside a synagogue on Upper Clapton Road, according to CNN reporting.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated that all possible motives are being investigated, including antisemitism and potential state-sponsored involvement. “We are treating this incident extremely seriously,” the spokesperson said. “Given the location and the nature of the vehicles targeted, we are keeping an open mind and exploring all avenues of inquiry.”

The Community Security Trust (CST), a charity that provides security advice to the Jewish community in the UK, condemned the attack. “What we have is a deeply concerning incident and will cause significant anxiety within the Jewish community,” a CST spokesperson stated. “We are working closely with the police to ensure that all necessary security measures are in place.”

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and follows warnings from UK security officials about the potential for Iran to conduct hostile acts within the country. Recent statements from police officials have described Iran as posing a “grave” threat to the UK, according to Sky News. The investigation is focusing on whether the attack was a direct response to regional events or part of a broader campaign to intimidate the Jewish community.

The BBC reported that the ambulances were essential for providing rapid medical assistance within the Orthodox Jewish community, particularly during Sabbath and Jewish holidays when regular ambulance services may be limited. The loss of these vehicles will significantly impact the community’s ability to respond to medical emergencies.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Police are appealing for witnesses and information. The investigation is ongoing, and security agencies are working to determine the full extent of any potential Iranian involvement.
