The Incident and initial Rescue Attempts

Marins was hiking with five friends on the morning of June 21 when she slipped and fell off a cliff.Drone footage initially showed her alive in a ravine approximately 150 meters (492 feet) deep. However, initial rescue attempts were unsuccessful, and by the following morning, she could not be found in the same location, even after rescuers descended 300 meters (984 feet).

Challenging Rescue Conditions

The search and rescue operation, led by experienced rescuer Khafid Hasyadi, was significantly hampered by adverse weather conditions. “This was the worst incident I have seen in my 15-year career,” Hasyadi stated, describing impenetrable fog and difficult terrain. Poor visibility and rain prevented the deployment of a helicopter, forcing rescuers to rely on ground efforts.
