Loes Adegeest Wins UCI Kreiz Breizh Elites Féminin
Tactical Breakdown of the Brutal Breton Route
Racing through the picturesque yet punishing landscapes of Brittany, the event immediately ignited when eight riders formed an early escape group during the first hour. This initial move featured Idoia Eraso of Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi, Maéva Plagniol and Giorgia Vettorello representing Tenvels Le Dévoluy, Lilou Jauvin of Mayenne Monbana My Pie, Léonie Mahieu of Lanester Women Morbihan, Martha Stokkeland for Torelli, Sophie von Berswordt of VolkerWessels Cycling Team, and Laury Milette from Team Abadie Magnan.
Despite their early initiative, the escapees struggled to establish a gap exceeding one minute over the main bunch. The relentless profile of the course quickly thundered down the field. With 89 kilometers remaining, the breakaway fractured as Plagniol, Jauvin, Mahieu, and Stokkeland lost contact. The remaining four escapees held a slender advantage until Eraso launched a solo offensive with 49 kilometers to go, shedding Von Berswordt, Milette, and Vettorello. That aggressive bid dissolved when the peloton swallowed Eraso up with 37 kilometers left as the race hit the six finishing circuits in Callac.
The Decisive Break and Final Sprint
Aggression defined the closing phase of the race. Mavi Garcia of UAE Team l’IMAD initiated a crucial split with 33 kilometers remaining. While Swiss rider Léa Stern of Ma Petite Entreprise briefly joined Garcia, she soon dropped back, allowing Margot Vanpachtenbeke of Lidl-Trek and Caroline Andersson of Liv AlUla Jayco to bridge the gap. The elite selection coalesced into a twelve-rider front group with 12 kilometers left on the clock.
As the race reached the bell lap, Garcia launched yet another attack. Only Adegeest, World Champion Magdeleine Vallieres of EF Education-Oatly, and Van Dam could match the acceleration. Having expended her energy reserves during earlier attacks, Garcia lacked the finishing speed required to contest the line.
“It’s a brutal course,” Adegeest stated regarding the demanding route. “This race has been a goal for me since I saw it on my calendar. So I was really happy that the good feeling returned this week.”
