Saint-Girons, Ariège – A thorough health and well-being initiative brought together approximately forty organizations today at the town’s exhibition center, offering residents direct access to vital resources and expert guidance. The “Living Well in Couserans” day, a collaborative effort between the saint-Girons town hall’s CCAS and the local multidisciplinary health center, aimed to empower citizens with data on social services, healthcare options, preventative measures, financial aid, and administrative support, alongside opportunities for sports and leisure activities. This event addresses a growing need for accessible health information and support within the Couserans region, particularly for vulnerable populations like those affected by neurodevelopmental disorders and Alzheimer’s disease. With an aging population and increasing awareness of complex health challenges, initiatives like this are crucial for proactive community care and improving quality of life. Organizers anticipate the connections forged today will lead to increased utilization of available services and a more engaged, informed citizenry.
The day featured presentations from a diverse range of partners, highlighting the breadth of support available to residents. Special attention was given to patients with Alzheimer’s and related diseases, and their caregivers, with two well-attended conferences focusing on specialized care. The first explored the benefits of Aulus-les-Bains thermal baths and nutritional strategies, while the second addressed neurodevelopmental disorders.
Later in the evening, a film screening and discussion of ”France Alzheimer and related diseases” took place at the Max-Linder room, led by Dr. Frédéric Del Mazo, head of geriatrics at the Ariège-Couserans Hospital Center.
“The day turned out to be a great success,” noted saint-Girons Mayor Jean-Noël Vigneau, following a tour of the event and conversations with participating organizations. Éric Larroque, nurse and coordinator of the multidisciplinary health center, echoed this sentiment, having actively engaged with attendees throughout the day to facilitate connections and provide information.
