Liverpool: Xabi Alonso Talks Begin as Pressure Mounts on Arne Slot
Liverpool Football Club are in discussions with Xabi Alonso regarding the possibility of the former midfielder returning to Anfield as manager, according to multiple reports emerging Saturday. The move comes amid growing pressure on current manager Arne Slot following a recent run of poor form, culminating in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The defeat at the Amex Stadium marked Liverpool’s third consecutive Premier League loss, leaving them fifth in the standings and facing an increasingly uphill battle to secure Champions League qualification for next season. Slot, who guided Liverpool to a Premier League title in his first season, invested heavily in novel players during the summer transfer window, bringing in Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Jeremeie Frimpong and Alexander Isak. However, these acquisitions have yet to fully integrate into the team, and the club’s overall performance has significantly declined. This one doesn’t.” He also noted that Liverpool have been outrun in 26 of their 30 Premier League games this season, a statistic highlighting a concerning lack of energy and belief within the squad.
Reports suggest Liverpool are now exploring the possibility of replacing Slot with Alonso during the international break. Football365 reported that Liverpool will approach Alonso about returning to management, potentially cutting short a break he began after leaving Real Madrid in January.
