Liverpool working on permanent deal for Ronald Araujo, TeamTalk says
Liverpool are working on a permanent deal to sign Barcelona loanee Ronald Araujo for €55m (£47m) ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from TEAMtalk. The 27-year-old Uruguay international has impressed early in his Anfield career after joining on loan and being deployed as a right-back by Andoni Iraola.
Building Defensive Depth on Merseyside
The club needed to bring in defensive experience during the summer market after losing Ibrahim Konate and Andy Robertson. Liverpool added youngster Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais for £55m, Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5m, Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna for £2.57m, Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for £106m, Lucca Brughmans from Genk for £28.3m, and secured Araujo on loan from Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano clarified in mid-September that the loan agreement includes a permanent purchase option worth €55m (£47m). TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported earlier that month that Araujo will leave Barcelona permanently in 2027 if manager Hansi Flick signals no desire for his return to Camp Nou.
On-Pitch Impact and Managerial Praise
Araujo has quickly endeared himself to supporters. During a 2-0 win over Brighton, the defender earned a loud reaction from the Anfield crowd by executing a headed tackle while on the floor inside the penalty area.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk highlighted the defender’s energy in comments to Stadium Astro. That’s what we need,
Van Dijk said. You see it with the crowd, the crowd loves it, and that energy can transcend to the team.

Van Dijk also emphasized the value of the defensive display against a high-scoring opponent. It was important for us to keep that clean sheet and be ready on the break, and that’s what we did,
he added.
It helps a lot [to have Ronald],
Iraola told reporters. I think we all enjoyed watching Ronald fighting. I think he’s very good in the duels.
Iraola added, Even the first goal, I think he wins two duels in a row, he arrives at the byline and after, it’s not an assist, but it’s worth an assist. And defensively, I think he’s been really, really really good.
Iraola also noted, I’m happy for him because I’ve taken him out in the last two games, because we needed more offensive things, at half-time and he has continued working with no issues and today we needed him more. He has given a very, very good 90 minutes.
Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the hierarchy on Merseyside is already preparing for a permanent transfer. Liverpool will already be working on that deal to sign Araujo on a permanent deal, it’s already happening,
Brown said.
A decision on triggering the purchase clause will be finalized before the summer window opens.
