Valdemorillo Transforms into a Living Canvas with ‘Live Art in the Square’

Valdemorillo is set to become a vibrant hub of creativity as the Community of Madrid’s acclaimed program, ‘Live Art in the Square,’ makes its debut in the town. On the afternoon of September 4th,the heart of Valdemorillo, the Plaza de la Constitución,will be reimagined as a dynamic stage for artistic expression, coinciding with the town’s festive atmosphere.

This initiative aims to celebrate and disseminate creative talent through participatory artistic actions that are deeply rooted in the community’s spirit. The program invites the public to experience art beyond the confines of traditional museums and exhibition halls, transforming public spaces into “living canvases.”

A Fusion of Contemporary and Local Talent

The event will showcase the work of five contemporary artists, each bringing unique perspectives and innovative projects to the plaza. Among them is José Venditti, a composer and sound and visual artist, who will present ‘Tiempo Villas’, an itinerant sound creation project that transforms everyday sounds into a captivating sonic experience.

María Sánchez, whose doctoral research focuses on the value of performance, will unveil Nostalgia. This ephemeral artistic action delves into the fragility and interdependence inherent in the human condition.

Emmanuel Carvajal, known for his vibrant use of color and live portraiture, will engage audiences with ‘I, in color’, an interactive piece that encourages viewers to see themselves from a fresh outlook.

Andrea Saiz, who balances her career as an actress and theater director with performance art, will recreate ‘what is said to fly’, a piece that emphasizes self-belief as the key to achieving the unachievable.

Rounding out the featured artists is Checho Tamayo, a scenic and performance creator. In ‘Oxymoron’, Tamayo will explore the unexpected connections between movement and emotion, football and dance, and the popular and the refined.

These five contemporary creators, affiliated with Juan Gallery, are expected to foster an enriching dialog with othre participants and the public, encouraging new methods of artistic collaboration.

Local Artisans and Performers Join the Celebration

Adding to the richness of the event, the Department of Culture and Tourism has extended an invitation to local artists and artisans to share their crafts and talents. Victoria Gil, head of the department, expressed enthusiasm for this aspect of the program, stating, “so that they show us their trade and talent, sharing an experience that will surely be really unique.”

The call for participation welcomes plastic arts, performing arts, and crafts. Local talents already confirmed include Rakel Valero, recognized for her creations using recycled materials for tiles and facades; painter Sabino Serna; diana Nieto, who will showcase her illustrations, embroidery, and paintings; and sculptor Héctor Delgado.

The musical landscape will be enhanced by Helena Castro and Javier Méndez, alongside the group Russoda. Demonstrations by a bolillos (bobbin lace) group will offer a glimpse into traditional craftsmanship at street level. Furthermore, the comedians of Valdemorillo (COVAL) are set to perform ‘Ear tales’ in the heart of the public space.
