The Little Rock Trojans baseball team returns to Gary Hogan Field this weekend to host West Georgia in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. The series opener marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs, and comes just days after a thrilling 12-11 midweek victory over Memphis on Tuesday.
Head coach Chris Curry highlighted areas for improvement as the Trojans prepare for the Wolves. “We necessitate to continue to obtain better with runners in scoring position, and we’ve worked on that in practice,” Curry said. “We’re still letting teams create via the walk and hit by pitch, so we need to eliminate those, especially out of the bullpen. Our baserunning was better, but our catchers need to throw better. Teams are 19-for-19 running against us so far. Teams are going to exploit that.”
West Georgia enters the series with a 1-4 record, having recently suffered a loss to Kennesaw State. Curry described the Wolves as a team that is “flipping their weekend rotation, trying to find some answers,” and noted they “don’t really have one guy that stands out,” but are fundamentally sound defensively, not committing many errors.
The Trojans’ offense has been particularly potent early in the season, boasting a .340 team batting average, a .611 slugging percentage, and a .417 on-base percentage. In Tuesday’s win against Memphis, Little Rock hit six home runs. Angel Cano has recorded multiple hits in each of the team’s four games, whereas Cano, Ty Rhoades, Nico Baumbach, and Michael O’Brien have each hit safely in every game this year.
Coach Curry is also within reach of a program milestone, needing just eight more wins to become the all-time winningest coach in Little Rock Trojans baseball history.
All three games against West Georgia will be streamed on ESPN+. The Trojans and Memphis are scheduled to meet again next Tuesday at Gary Hogan Field.
