Lithuanian Citizen Detained in Israel to be Deported, MFA Confirms
JERUSALEM – A Lithuanian citizen, Alexander Chichlovskij, who participated in teh “Global Sumud Flotilla” attempting to deliver aid to Gaza, is being deported back to Lithuania, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced today. The information was confirmed by the Lithuanian consul in Israel following a meeting with chichlovskij.
Chichlovskij is currently held at Ketziot Prison in Israel and has signed a consent form for deportation, according to the MFA’s Facebook page.The Ministry stated it is indeed “constantly following the situation and maintains contact with the citizen’s relatives.”
The “Global Sumud Flotilla,” comprised of approximately 45 ships carrying politicians, activists, hundreds of tonnes of food, and medical supplies, aimed to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Chichlovskij’s participation in the flotilla prompted a protest at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs several weeks ago, with demonstrators calling for his protection.
This week,Israeli authorities intercepted multiple ships associated with the flotilla,detaining them at Israeli ports. As of Thursday, over 30 vessels were reported to be detained or expected to be detained by Israel.
