Lithuania local electricity production met 94% of September demand
Local electricity production met 94 percent of the country’s total consumption demand in September. Overall national power demand was met at 85 percent, with the remaining deficit imported through the Lithuania-Latvia and Lithuania-Sweden interconnectors. During the first three quarters of 2026, renewable energy installations supplied over 86 percent of all generated electricity.
Local Generation Exceeds Total Consumption for 97 Days
Local generation exceeded total consumption for 97 days across the first nine months of the year, surpassing total national demand on 67 of those days. Total electricity consumption in September rose 11 percent higher than in September 2025. Wind and solar facilities produced 5.99 TWh over the first three quarters, marking a 29.9 percent increase over the same period in 2024.
Wind farms generated 0.51 TWh of electricity in September alone. That output nearly matches the 0.50 TWh consumed by the entire Vilnius District Municipality across the entirety of last year. Wind production climbed 89 percent higher than the 0.27 TWh recorded in September 2025, and about 34 percent higher than this August. Total installed capacity for wind power grew 5.8 percent, adding 148 MW compared to 2025 figures.

Solar Installations Reach 3,803 MW Capacity
Solar installations reached an installed capacity of 3,803 MW by the end of September. Solar plants met 23.7 percent of total electricity consumption during the month, generating 0.24 TWh—an output comparable to the 0.25 TWh consumed by the Akmenė district over all of last year. Solar generation increased 50 percent year-on-year from September 2025, though it tracked roughly 35 percent lower than the 0.37 TWh recorded this August. Total solar output since the beginning of the year reached 2.15 TWh, up 31 percent from the first nine months of 2025.
Prosumer installations totaled roughly 2,715 MW in September, representing a 19.19 percent increase—or an addition of 437 MW—over the 2,278 MW registered in 2025. Remote prosumers held 17.4 percent, or 472 MW, of that installed capacity. Non-remote prosumers accounted for the remaining 82.6 percent, or 2,243 MW. The total number of prosumers grew by 3,698 during the month of September.
