Last night, even though they are supposed to withstand storms, one of the ancient yew trees lining the entrances to St. John’s the Evangelist in Cinderford was downed by Storm Darragh. Though the church was built in 1844, I don’t know when the yews were planted.nFortunately, the tree downing happened when nobody was there for a service or walking through the churchyard. Yews are sacred in many traditions and are associated with death and the soul’s journey. They are also symbols of immortality and rebirth.
