What visitors are saying

The residents Huntington Beach are under siege by the noise pollution generated by planes landing at Long Beach Airport. Over the last 10 years the commercial traffic into the airport grew many times over and so the flights that pass over the city to land at Long Beach. Most of the flights are at or below 1600f MSL at the intersection of Bolsa Chica and Edinger.nI cannot reconcile on why some planes of the same manufacture and model fly the same approach at the same distance from the airport and yet at much different altitudes. There are some planes landing at Long Beach at 1500f MSL at/or nearby Bolsa Chica and Edinger. Others, of the dame manufacture and model at the same geographical location, landing at the same airport and runway are at 2500f MSL. That is an inconsistence that pilots from those planes we questioned cannot explain other that they blame it to the VFR approaches “pilot judgment”. Pilots’ arbitrarily choosing the approach heights needs to stop so the communities under the flight path can see some reliefnThere is an aggravator to the problem, the low flying planes have the throttles at a higher setting contributing to the noise. Many times we heard the low flying crafts engines spool up while passing over the city.nIt would be nice and better for everyone if they all could execute a 3 degree approach from as far as possible. That would put the mention geographical intersection at 2400f MSL and bring some relief to the communities.nOne more concern is the increase numbers of late night landings. This type of intrusion did not exist 5 years ago. Now it seems that every night we have a late night wakeup call.nThe A320’s that Jet Blue fly into Long beach and are the older type with the problem of the fuel tank vents under the wings. These vents generate a high peach sound much as when blowing into an empty bottle when landing and is very disturbing. Air Bus, the makers of the plane, has a fix for the problem. It consists of a blot on cup shaped vortex generators that disrupt the airflow over the vent tubes at landing and eliminate the noise to much the relief of the community these devises cost only $3000 per plane and can be done at any schedule maintenance.nIn short we would like to increase the altitude of crafts over the city with a minimum of 2500f MSL . We would like to have the operators of A320 that fly into Long Beach install the vortex generators to eliminate the screech created by the fuel tanks vents.nLastly we would appreciate if some curving down of the late night flying into Long Beach. The current method is not working. Jet Blue already paid more than $600.000 in fines in July for late landings.nWith the intent to foster aviation we recommend that this fixes be implemented.
