Lipton Transfers Rize Tea Facilities to Özgür Çay
Lipton has agreed to transfer ownership of its tea processing facilities in the Rize province of Turkey – specifically in the Pazar and Fındıklı districts – to Özgür Çay A.Ş. The agreement, involving Lipton Çay Production Inc., has been submitted to the Turkish Competition Board for approval.
This move is part of Lipton’s broader global strategy following its separation from Unilever in 2022 and transition to an autonomous company. Lipton stated the shift allows it to concentrate on its core strengths: tea selection, blending, and brand engagement. As part of this refocus, the company is streamlining operations by transferring ownership of tea fields and processing facilities in various markets.
Despite the transfer, Lipton will continue its operations in Turkey through its existing entity, “Lipton Food and Tea Industry and Trade Joint Stock Company.” The company will maintain its commitment to sourcing tea according to its established quality, sustainability, and safety standards, working with existing supplier partners.
Lipton is investing 30 million euros in a new innovation, blending, and packaging facility in Sakarya, scheduled to open in 2025, which will serve as the central hub for its Turkish operations. The company has operated in Turkey for 39 years and remains committed to the market.
