Lincoln Handicap Tips: Greek Order & Galeron Could Spring a Surprise at Doncaster
Doncaster hosts the traditional curtain raiser to the Flat season this weekend with the William Hill Lincoln Handicap (3.35pm). Trainer Charlie Hills is preparing his one-time Classic contender Galeron for a tilt at the race, according to Irish Racing and Turftalk. The six-year-old, who won the Goffs Million at the Curragh in 2022, finished fifth in last year’s Lincoln off a mark of 102. He is set to line up this year 12 pounds lower in the weights, taking jockey Jack Callan’s five-pound claim into account, RacingTV reports. Hills noted the horse has “done really well in the last month or so” after returning to his Lambourn yard in January following a spell in Australia. Galeron has a strong record at Doncaster, having never finished worse than fifth and placing three times from four starts at the track. Hills as well has Cicero’s Gift entered for the Flat season’s traditional curtain-raiser, but is concerned about the ground conditions for the five-year-old, stating that “decent spring ground would be fine,” News and Star reports. The trainer also indicated that Cicero’s Gift will have an entry in the Listed Doncaster Mile. He added that the horse “showed at Sandown last year that he can win a nice handicap off top-weight and he’s a pretty decent horse on his day.”
