Cairo – Rising Egyptian actress Lina Sophia described her role in the upcoming Ramadan 2026 drama “Wannasa Elli Kan” (And We Forget What Was) as one of the most challenging of her career, revealing she struggled to find a real-life counterpart to emulate for the character. Sophia portrays “Yara,” the daughter of a famous actress, played by Yasmin Abdel Aziz, who displays a harsh and critical attitude towards her mother.
Speaking on the “Nogoum Ramadan Aqrablak” (Ramadan Stars Closer to You) program on Nogoum FM radio on Monday, Sophia explained the difficulty stemmed from a lack of personal experience with such a dynamic. “Most of the people around me have good relationships with their mothers, and I love my mother very much, so I couldn’t imagine someone hating their mother, how they could hate her,” she said, according to FilFan.com. Sophia added that she felt significant pressure while performing the role and was initially very nervous.
The actress further detailed the emotional weight of her first scene with Abdel Aziz, describing it as the most difficult of the production. “The hardest scene was my first appearance, when I confronted the artist Yasmin Abdel Aziz and asked her not to come near me,” Sophia recounted on Nogoum FM, as reported by NogoumFM.net. Despite her initial anxiety, she expressed admiration for Abdel Aziz, calling her “a wonderful artist and an icon” who earned her success through hard work and dedication.
Sophia’s character, Yara, consistently sides with her father, exacerbating the tensions faced by her mother, the renowned actress “Jalila.” According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the series explores themes of family dynamics and relationships. Sophia similarly expressed a desire to accept on more diverse roles, specifically mentioning an interest in portraying a character from a more working-class background. “I have a lot of things I want to offer and I want to play a popular role,” she stated in a separate interview, as reported by Bussrah News.
“Wannasa Elli Kan” is slated to air during the Ramadan 2026 television season, alongside other highly anticipated dramas. Lina Sophia’s previous work includes the series “220 Day,” featuring Karim Fahmy and Saba Mubarak, according to Okaz newspaper. Production on “Wannasa Elli Kan” is ongoing, with no confirmed air date beyond the Ramadan timeframe.
