Bárcenas responded for Mazatlán in the 56th minute with a well-executed free kick of his own.
With the win, Chivas maintains a firm grip on the league lead with 15 points, five ahead of Tigres, Cruz Azul, and Atlas. Tigres earlier in the day defeated Santos Laguna 5-1, while Necaxa defeated San Luis 4-1 and Tijuana drew 0-0 with Puebla. The victory sets up a highly anticipated Clásico Nacional next weekend, where Chivas will host América.
