Liga de Quito and Coach Tiago Nunes Face Combined $105,000 Fine from Conmebol

QUITO, ECUADOR – Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (LDU Quito) and head coach Tiago Nunes have been sanctioned with substantial fines by Conmebol following incidents during their recent‌ copa Sudamericana match against São​ Paulo. The penalties, announced October 15, 2025, underscore Conmebol’s strict enforcement of its regulations.

LDU Quito was fined $40,000‌ for non-compliance with ​a⁢ provision outlined in the Club manual. Simultaneously, Coach Tiago Nunes received a⁤ personal fine ⁣of $65,000.

The levied amounts will be directly deducted from the financial​ prizes LDU Quito is eligible to receive from the Copa Libertadores⁤ tournament. Conmebol officials⁤ emphasized the need for the club to exercise increased vigilance to prevent future infractions. The sanctions stem ⁢from events ⁤that occurred during the ⁢match and were reviewed by the Conmebol Disciplinary Commission.
