Liga de Quito and Coach Tiago Nunes Face Combined $105,000 Fine from Conmebol
QUITO, ECUADOR – Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (LDU Quito) and head coach Tiago Nunes have been sanctioned with substantial fines by Conmebol following incidents during their recent copa Sudamericana match against São Paulo. The penalties, announced October 15, 2025, underscore Conmebol’s strict enforcement of its regulations.
LDU Quito was fined $40,000 for non-compliance with a provision outlined in the Club manual. Simultaneously, Coach Tiago Nunes received a personal fine of $65,000.
The levied amounts will be directly deducted from the financial prizes LDU Quito is eligible to receive from the Copa Libertadores tournament. Conmebol officials emphasized the need for the club to exercise increased vigilance to prevent future infractions. The sanctions stem from events that occurred during the match and were reviewed by the Conmebol Disciplinary Commission.
