Liga de Quito secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Palmeiras in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final on Tuesday, positioning themselves favorably for a spot in the tournamentS grand final.
The Ecuadorian side dominated the match, consistently pressuring the Palmeiras defense. Liga de Quito opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a goal from Gabriel Villamil. Lisandro Alzugaray extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute, converting a penalty kick. Villamil then added his second goal of the night just before halftime, completing a brace adn establishing a 3-0 advantage for Liga de Quito.
Despite a more aggressive approach from Palmeiras in the second half,they were unable to break through Liga de Quito’s defense and find the back of the net.
Liga de Quito now holds a meaningful lead heading into the second leg, scheduled for October 30 in Brazil. Though,the team will need to maintain thier performance to secure their place in the Copa Libertadores final.
