Lidl confirms Lidl Connect will not launch in Slovakia this year
„Spustenie služby Lidl Connect na Slovensku nie je otázkou najbližších mesiacov,” stated Tomáš Bezák, spokesperson for Lidl. Discount supermarket chain Lidl has confirmed that its upcoming mobile virtual network operator will not launch on the Slovak market this year.
Although the company previously confirmed in April that its goal is to make its mobile offering available across all countries where it operates, customers in Slovakia will have to wait longer for the service. Lidl has excluded an early launch and currently provides no exact date for when Slovakia might be next in line.
Expansion in Ireland
The announcement follows the rollout of Lidl Connect in Ireland earlier this month, where the discount chain launched its own mobile virtual operator. In the Irish market, the service offers a single contract-free mobile plan priced at 12,99 euros per month, providing unlimited 4G and 5G mobile data, unlimited calls and SMS within Ireland and to British networks, 50 GB of roaming data in the EU and selected other countries, and 100 minutes per month to foreign destinations.
During the initial launch in Ireland, the first 100,000 customers secured the same program at a lower promotional price of 8,99 euros per month, with Lidl promising to maintain that rate for the duration of the service usage. That heightened interest caused the discounted offer to conclude after about two weeks.
Global Rollout Plans
The supermarket chain continues to expand its mobile services across Europe, with operations already active in countries such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. For its international service expansion, Lidl partners with 1Global.
„Naša nová služba Lidl Connect, ktorú vytvárame so spoločnosťou 1Global, bude v budúcnosti dostupná na všetkých trhoch, kde Lidl pôsobí,“ said Bezák regarding the broader strategy to bring the mobile operator to all of its markets.”
