Transylvania University Hosts Inaugural LexCon Zine Fest, Showcasing Student & Community Creativity
LEXINGTON, KY – November 16, 2025 – Transylvania University buzzed with artistic energy this weekend as students and local creators convened for teh first annual LexCon Zine Fest.The event,held on Saturday,November 15th,transformed the campus into a vibrant hub for self-reliant comics,zines,and art,fostering a unique intersection of student expression and community engagement.
LexCon offered a platform for both established and emerging artists to share their work directly with the public, filling a niche for alternative art forms in Lexington. The festival’s success underscores a growing interest in DIY publishing and the power of zines to amplify diverse voices. Organizers envision LexCon becoming an annual tradition, strengthening the bond between Transylvania and the broader creative community while providing students with valuable experience in event planning and artistic entrepreneurship.
The festival featured a diverse array of zines, ranging from personal narratives and political commentary to fantastical illustrations and experimental poetry. Tables lined the campus centre, showcasing the work of over 20 artists, including numerous Transylvania students.Attendees browsed the offerings, engaged with creators, and participated in workshops focused on zine-making techniques.
“It’s really cool to see so many peopel interested in this kind of art,” said one student artist, who wished to remain anonymous. “Zines are a really accessible way to get your work out there, and LexCon has created a really supportive surroundings for that.”
LexCon was spearheaded by Transylvania students with support from the university’s art and English departments. The event’s organizers hope to expand the festival in future years, attracting more artists and attendees and further solidifying its role as a cornerstone of Lexington’s independent art scene.
