Barcelona Eyes Atlético Madrid’s julián Álvarez as Potential Lewandowski Successor
Barcelona is reportedly considering Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, whose contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the current season. The polish striker, 35, recently returned to the starting lineup under German coach Hansi Flick after recovering from a health issue, but his age raises questions about his long-term future at the club. Lewandowski previously turned down offers from Saudi Arabia during the last transfer window.
Álvarez, 24, has become a key player for Atlético Madrid since joining from Manchester City. He recently impressed during the Madrid derby against Real Madrid and idolized Lionel Messi growing up, playing alongside him on the Argentinian national team. The potential move reflects Barcelona’s proactive approach to planning for the future of their attack.
The player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, revealed Álvarez’s affinity for Barcelona, stating in the Solo Para Culés podcast: “As a child he watched the career of Leo.Of course there are not many Argentinians who would not have sympathy for Barcelona. Julián is very grateful to all Barcelona players who talk about him in good. For example, the defender cubarsi.”
This year, Álvarez has scored six goals and provided one assist. His current transfer value is estimated at €100 million, according to Transfermarkt.
