Letitia Wright says she received death threats amid relationship rumors
Actress Letitia Wright stated during an October 5 podcast appearance that she has received death threats amid online rumors concerning her relationship status. Speaking on Paloma Faith’s Mad, Sad, Bad podcast, the Black Panther star opened up about the harassment and the challenges of maintaining personal privacy under public scrutiny.
Wright Describes Extreme Online Harassment
During her interview, Wright recalled the severity of the backlash she has faced. When host Paloma Faith asked if messages directed at her had become extreme, Wright confirmed, “Yeah. It’s that bad,” adding that individuals told her she deserves to die. Wright tries to avoid reading the comments, noting that direct conversations would likely change how critics view her.
Wright rose to fame Stateside in 2018 playing Shuri in Black Panther, following earlier television roles in projects such as Top Boy and Black Mirror. The interview arrived weeks after speculation regarding her personal life intensified following a public outing.
Public Appearances and Relationship Speculation
Wright and a woman named Angel-Vicki were photographed together on September 3 at a press night for Wright’s play The Story at London’s National Theatre. Following the event, Angel-Vicki shared photographs from the evening with the caption, “Happy Press Night! I’m beyond proud of you,” alongside images of the pair in matching pajamas and the phrase “mi amor.”
Speculation grew after Angel-Vicki’s Instagram bio reportedly listed “WLW” and “Married,” while an account believed to belong to Wright reportedly responded affirmatively when asked if she was married. Neither woman publicly confirmed a marriage, and Wright did not address Angel-Vicki or her marital status during the podcast. Both women subsequently deactivated their Instagram accounts.
Wright Defends Her Right to Privacy
Addressing the intrusion into her personal life, Wright maintained that public attention does not grant open access to her private affairs. “Just because I have a public talent doesn’t mean that the other parts of my life is a free-for-all,” she told Faith.
The actress also discussed the intersection of her Christian faith and personal experiences, noting that she has worked through conflicting feelings in therapy. “I feel like you’re not allowed to be complex,” Wright explained, adding that she is learning to accept nuance. “I’m allowed to be complex and different and whole and still be worthy of love.”
