Leon Draisaitl Injury: Oilers Star Seeks Treatment in Germany | NHL News

March 21, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl is receiving treatment in Germany for a lower-body injury that will keep him out of action for the remainder of the NHL regular season, the player revealed Saturday during a Sky Sports broadcast of a German soccer match.

Draisaitl, speaking during coverage of Bayern Munich’s game against Union Berlin, indicated his recovery will take “a few weeks,” and expressed hope of returning to play during the playoffs. “I hope we move far enough so I can help the team again,” he said, according to Sky Sports reporter Ben Heckner.

The Oilers star is being treated by Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, a renowned sports physician known as “Healing Hans,” who has treated numerous high-profile athletes including Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt, and Kobe Bryant. Müller-Wohlfahrt served as Bayern Munich’s team physician from 1977 to 2015 and again from 2017 to 2020, and was also the physician for the German national men’s soccer team from 1995 to 2018.

Draisaitl’s visit to Bayern Munich’s facilities and his treatment by Müller-Wohlfahrt follow a similar path taken by Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews last season, who sought treatment from the physician for an undisclosed injury. Former Carolina Hurricanes player Max Pacioretty also consulted Müller-Wohlfahrt while recovering from an Achilles injury.

The injury occurred during the first period of Sunday’s game against the Nashville Predators. Draisaitl, in his first year of an eight-year, $112 million contract with a $14 million cap hit, finished the regular season with 35 goals and 97 points in 65 games.

The Oilers currently hold second place in the Pacific Division, trailing the Anaheim Ducks by three points.
