Lens Thrash Paris FC 5-0 & Reclaim Ligue 1 Lead | Champions League Push

February 15, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Lens emphatically reclaimed the top spot in Ligue 1 on Saturday with a dominant 5-0 victory over Paris FC, fueled by a brace each from Wesley Saïd and Rayan Fofana. The win puts Lens one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rennes on Friday, according to reports from multiple sources including Bleacher Report Football and social media updates.

Saïd opened the scoring in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a lay-off from Odsonne Edouard. He doubled the lead just before halftime, finding the top corner off a cross from Saud Abdulhamid. Florian Thauvin extended Lens’ advantage in the 58th minute, converting a penalty conceded by Otavio. Fofana then sealed the victory with two late goals, in the 90th and 90+5 minutes, exploiting a visibly discouraged Paris FC defense.

The victory marks a continued surge for Lens, who have won all their matches since a 3-1 setback against Marseille on January 24th. Despite missed opportunities – Edouard hitting the post and the crossbar – Lens maintained relentless pressure, with Thauvin also causing problems for the Parisian defense throughout the match.

Lens’ defensive solidity was also on display, highlighted by the performance of 19-year-old Bosnian central defender Nidal Celik, who was making his first Ligue 1 start. This defensive strength, combined with their potent counter-attacking ability, has become a hallmark of their play.

While Lens are challenging for the league title, the win also bolsters their chances of securing a Champions League spot. They currently hold a twelve-point advantage over Marseille, who sit in fourth place. Paris FC, despite the heavy defeat, maintain an eight-point lead over Auxerre, who are in the relegation play-off position, and will play Metz on Sunday.

The atmosphere at Jean-Bouin stadium was electric as Lens supporters celebrated their team’s performance, singing their anthem, “The settlements” by Pierre Bachelet. However, Paris FC have struggled at home this season, winning only two matches at Jean-Bouin.
