by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

CD Leganés will travel to Real Sporting Gijón’s Estadio El Molinón – Enrique Castro, “Quini” on Sunday at 16:15 hours for a match in the 28th round of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. The team seeks to regain winning form after failing to secure victories in their last two matches.

The trip comes after Leganés suffered a defeat in Córdoba and a draw against Cultural Leonesa. Igor Oca, the team’s manager, will be without Rubén Peña, Jorge Sáenz, and Rubén Pulido due to injuries. San Román may return to the squad after overcoming recent discomfort.

Real Sporting currently occupies the eighth position in the league, just one point away from a playoff spot, and is on a three-match unbeaten streak. Borja Jiménez, the Sporting manager and a former Leganés coach, may be missing Nacho Martín, Cuenca, and Loum due to injury.

Over four hundred Leganés supporters are expected to travel to Gijón to support their team. A previous match between Real Sporting and CD Leganés, played on December 16, 2023, ended in a 1-1 draw, with J. Otero scoring for Sporting and Sergio González for Leganés.

Earlier this year, on February 27, 2026, Leganés lost 0-1 to Real Sporting, with Dubasin scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute. The match highlighted Leganés’ ongoing struggles with finishing scoring opportunities.
