Lee Min-jung Addresses Son’s Basketball Rumors | MJ Channel Update

March 25, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

South Korean actress Lee Min-jung addressed recent online speculation regarding her son, Jun-hoo and his potential as a basketball player, stating he is “just an ordinary student” and that basketball remains a hobby.

Lee Min-jung made the comments during a video posted to her YouTube channel, ‘Lee Min-jung MJ,’ on Sunday, although visiting an elementary school basketball tournament in the Eunpyeong-gu district of Seoul. She had accompanied her son to the event, according to the Sports Donga report.

“When you watch a game, Junhu sometimes looks like a basketball player, but he’s not,” Lee Min-jung said while filming a mukbang segment featuring kimbap. She emphasized that basketball serves as a recreational outlet for her son, clarifying that he does not aspire to a professional athletic career.

The video also offered a glimpse into Lee Min-jung’s daily life with her son, showing them sharing snacks and engaging in playful banter. A moment captured in the video showed Jun-hoo gently correcting his mother’s enthusiastic, but incorrect, basketball terminology.

Lee Min-jung married actor Lee Byung-hun in 2013 and the couple have two children, a son and a daughter. She regularly shares aspects of her family life with her subscribers on YouTube.

The clarification comes amid a period of heightened scrutiny of teachers and students in South Korea. In June 2025, teachers were demanding stronger protections against child abuse allegations, following incidents where educators faced counter-complaints after attempting to discipline students, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily. Lee Ju-ho, the current Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, previously withdrew a warning of disciplinary action against teachers who participated in a rally in September 2023, as reported by The Korea Herald.
