LeBron James Breaks NBA Games Played Record vs Orlando Magic

March 22, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

LeBron James surpassed Robert Parish for the most regular-season games played in NBA history on Saturday night, appearing in his 1,612th career game against the Orlando Magic. The Los Angeles Lakers won the game 105-104, fueled by a game-winning three-pointer from Luka Kennard, marking their ninth consecutive victory.

James, 41 years old and in his 23rd NBA season, broke the previous record of 1,611 games held by Parish, a former NBA player known as “The Chief.” He first tied Parish’s record on Thursday night in Miami before exceeding it in Orlando. The achievement underscores James’ remarkable durability and commitment to consistent availability for his team, a strategy increasingly rare in an era where “load management” is common.

“It was a regular prep day,” James said after the game. “I kept it the same as the previous whatever 1,600 whatever the record is… but I knew, once I stepped on the floor and the game began that I was breaking the record, and… that’s a pretty cool thing.” He emphasized that his priority is to be present for his teammates, stating, “The best thing you can have for your teammates is availability. And I strive to be available throughout my career, two decades-plus… you know, to my guys.”

James’ first points in the record-breaking game came from a steal, finished with a one-handed slam dunk. Teammate Austin Reaves remarked on James’ longevity, noting he sometimes forgets he’s playing with a player in his 23rd season. “I was like, ‘I’m going to kill you one day on accident, just throwing the ball like I forget that you’re 41,’” Reaves said. “It’s just incredible what he does every single day.”

Beyond the games played record, James already holds NBA records for all-time points (43,229), field goals (15,884), All-Star selections (22), All-NBA selections (13 first-team and 21 total), seasons played (23), playoff games (292), and even turnovers (5,620). He currently ranks fourth in assists, sixth in steals, and fifth in triple-doubles.

The Lakers’ victory, however, may come at a cost. Luka Dončić picked up his 16th technical foul of the season during the game, triggering an automatic one-game suspension unless the technical foul is rescinded by the league.
