]Lebanon Israel Conflict: Ceasefire Talks and Rising Casualties

Lebanese president Calls for‍ End to Israeli Attacks Amid Rising⁢ Civilian Casualties

Lebanese President ‍Joseph⁤ Aoun has urgently appealed for a ⁤cessation of Israeli attacks on lebanon, as bombings intensify across the region.The call came during a meeting with⁣ U.S.envoy Morgan Ortagus on ​Tuesday, according‍ to ‌a statement released by the President’s ⁤office.

President‍ Aoun emphasized the need to reactivate the action of the ⁤ceasefire monitoring mechanism to halt what⁢ he described as ⁤continued Israeli violations and‍ attacks.

Envoy Ortagus is scheduled⁢ to participate in ​a meeting of the ceasefire monitoring mechanism during⁤ her visit to Lebanon. This mechanism includes representatives ‌from Lebanon, Israel,‌ the United States, France, and the United Nations.

Escalating‌ Violence and Civilian Impact

Recent days ‌have witnessed a⁤ marked increase ⁢in ​Israeli airstrikes within Lebanon. The Israeli air force ‌maintains these strikes target members or infrastructure associated with Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

The Lebanese Ministry of ‍Health ⁤reports that 13‍ people ‌have been killed consequently of Israeli ​strikes ‌as Thursday. The human cost‌ extends beyond ⁣fatalities, ⁤with significant displacement ⁣reported.

Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN ​high⁣ Commissioner for Human⁣ Rights, stated during a press conference in Geneva on⁢ Tuesday that 111 civilians – comprising 74 men, 21 women, and 16 children – have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli forces since ⁢the ‌end⁤ of the war. Laurence ‍further ⁤reported that over 82,000 people remain displaced due to the ongoing conflict.
