Latvia U21 Team Falls to germany in EC Qualifying Defeat
RIGA – The Latvian U21 football team suffered a heavy defeat against Germany in a European Championship qualifying match, losing 5-0. the game saw a dominant performance from the German side, with Ole Trezoldi scoring a hat-trick.
The German U21 team, led by Antonio di Salvo - who previously guided the team to a European vice-championship – quickly asserted their dominance. Trezoldi opened the scoring at the end of the first half, and added two more goals in the second half, in the 50th and 57th minutes, the latter assisted by Nelson Weiper. Muhammad Damar extended the lead with a penalty area goal shortly after Trezoldi’s third.
Elsewhere in Group D, greece defeated Malta 5-0, while Georgia and Northern Ireland drew 1-1.
Jakub Dovalil’s Latvian side, who secured a 2-0 victory over Lithuania in March – marking the debut of 16 players – and recently held a test match against Austria (0-1) in June, now face a challenging qualifying campaign.
The qualifying stage divides teams into nine groups, with group winners and the best runner-up automatically qualifying for the final tournament. The remaining runner-ups will compete for the final four qualifying spots. The 2027 European U21 Championship finals will be hosted in Albania and serbia, featuring the top 16 teams.
