Třinec Steelmakers Ready to Defend Extraliga Crown,Eye Olympic Glory
Třinec,Czech Republic – HC Oceláři Třinec enters the new Czech Extraliga season not basking in past glory, but fueled by the demanding standards that delivered last year’s championship. According to club boss Jan Modera, the pursuit of titles comes with a price – relentless self-assessment and a commitment to continuous improvement. The team is eager to renew rivalries, notably with HC Verva Litvínov, led by coach Tomáš Varaďa.
Last season proved a taxing journey for Třinec, a testament to the competitive intensity of the Extraliga. Modera emphasized the team’s internal drive, stating, “We are happy about both victory and when they fall goals. I wish we play a handsome game that people will look at.” The club’s long-term ambition extends beyond domestic success, with Modera harboring a dream of developing players capable of thriving in the NHL. While Radim Mrtka’s recent contract with Buffalo is a positive step, Modera seeks to see players nurtured within the Třinec system reach the highest level of professional hockey, citing Vlado Dravecký younger as a promising prospect currently gaining experience in Sweden.
Looking ahead, Modera expressed his hopes for Czech hockey, specifically a strong showing at the upcoming Olympic Games. He envisions a repeat of the Czech team’s historic Nagano performance, ideally with the participation of top NHL players. “Gorgeous extraleague and success at the Olympics,” Modera stated, “Maybe even more than at the World Championship, because the olympic Games should be open to the best NHL players. I would like the Czech hardship to repeat Nagano.”
