A rare snowfall blanketed Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, transforming the landscape outside Las Vegas and drawing residents to witness the unusual scene. Images shared widely on social media, including a post garnering 293 likes on February 18, showed a dusting of snow against the backdrop of the canyon’s red rock formations.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that snow fell in areas including Red Rock Overlook and Mountain Springs, with multiple photographs documenting the conditions. All southbound traffic on Interstate 15 was temporarily closed in Primm, Nevada, requiring commuters to exit at Primm, according to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.

The snowfall occurred amidst a second Pacific storm impacting the Las Vegas Valley, according to the Review-Journal. Destiny Knapp of Las Vegas and Auston McDonald of Henderson were among those photographed observing the snow at Red Rock Overlook.

Despite the winter weather, recreational activities continued in the area. A Red Rock Canyon hike with transport from Las Vegas was still operating, with one reviewer noting on February 13, 2026, that walking sticks are recommended for those less comfortable on varied terrain.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is scheduled to host a Red Rock Trivia event on February 22, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Additional events are planned between February 23 and March 1, 2026, though specific details were not immediately available.
