**Larry David** and **Barack Obama** Team Up for HBO Comedy
In an unexpected collaboration, comedy icon **Larry David** is joining forces with former President **Barack Obama** for a new sketch comedy series on HBO, promising a humorous take on American history.
A Presidential Pairing
The upcoming, yet-untitled, limited series, a half-hour show, is set to air on HBO and will center on American history. Expect appearances from cast members from **David**’s hit show, *Curb Your Enthusiasm.*
The premise hints at a collision of worlds: The Obamas, aiming to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary with a celebration of American history, find their plans hilariously disrupted by **Larry David**. The series will be produced by **Obama**’s Higher Ground production company.
Behind the Scenes
**David** is co-writing the series with his *Curb* partner, **Jeff Schaffer**, who is also directing. The show will include appearances from noteworthy guest stars. Executive producers include **David**, **Schaffer**, **Barack Obama**, **Michelle Obama**, **Vinnie Malhotra**, and **Ethan Lewis**.
First Project Since *Curb*
This new venture marks **Larry David**’s first project since the conclusion of *Curb Your Enthusiasm* after its twelfth season last year. According to a report by the Pew Research Center, television viewership is down, but streaming viewership continues to grow, with 75% of U.S. adults subscribing to a streaming service (Pew Research Center 2024).
Higher Ground Expands Horizons
It’s also thought to be the first series produced by the **Obamas**’ Higher Ground Productions outside of its existing deal with Netflix. Higher Ground previously partnered with 20th Century Studios for the Christmas comedy *Merry Ex-Mas*.
Quips from the Stars
Former President **Obama** humorously commented on the collaboration, “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with **Larry David**.”
**David** added his own comedic take, “Once *Curb* ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow. Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive.”
HBO’s Perspective
**Amy Gravitt**, EVP, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, said: “It’s hard to remember a time before *Curb*, or without **Larry David**’s perspective on modern life. We’re thrilled that **Larry** is coming back to HBO, this time with Higher Ground, to give us a glimpse at our shared history as we celebrate our Semiquincentennial.”
**Schaffer** added, “The characters **Larry** is playing didn’t change history. In fact, they were largely ignored by history. And that’s a good thing.”
