Laramie Plainsmen Host Kelly Walsh in Regular-Season Finale

Laramie Plainsmen Host Kelly Walsh in Regular-Season Finale

October 23, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor News

The fourth-ranked Laramie High School football team hosts the Kelly Walsh Trojans in a regular-season finale on Senior Night at Deti Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.

Playoff Seeding and Winning Record Stakes at Deti Stadium

A lot is on the line Friday night for the Laramie football program. The Plainsmen enter the contest with a 4-4 record following a 34-28 loss at No. 3 Cheyenne East last Friday. Beyond celebrating Senior Night for LHS, the team is fighting for playoff seeding and the possibility of securing a winning record in the regular season. Neither a home playoff game nor a regular-season winning record has happened for Laramie since 2000. To secure a home playoff game, the Plainsmen need a victory Friday coupled with a loss by Cheyenne Central, as reported by KOWB.

Cheyenne East Loss and the Road to Recovery

Last week against Cheyenne East, Laramie jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, and the score was tied 14-14 at halftime. The Thunderbirds capitalized on an early second-half turnover by LHS, alongside a pair of crucial fourth-down stops deep in Laramie territory, building a 35-14 lead. The Plainsmen mounted a late rally, scoring twice in the final 90 seconds. The first score came following a long drive, and the second followed a successful onside kick recovery. However, Cheyenne East covered the second onside kick attempt to seal the win.

Plainsmen head coach Jake Chick spoke with KOWB’s David Settle to preview the Kelly Walsh matchup. Chick noted that his squad is having real talk about what is at stake after the tough loss, while praising the dedication of the senior class.

Trojans Rely on Potent Rushing Attack

Kelly Walsh arrives in Laramie with a 3-5 record after suffering a 37-0 shutout loss at home against rival and top-ranked Natrona County last Friday. The Trojans rely heavily on a ground game that averages 218 rushing yards per contest, compared to just 40 passing yards per game. Quarterback Quinn Alvar, who shifted from running back earlier this season following an injury, teams up with running back Parker Hill to form a potent backfield tandem. Alvar averages 72.5 rushing yards per game, while Hill chips in 65 yards per contest. Defensively, the Trojans allow only 224 total yards per game—yielding 150 on the ground and 74 through the air—while surrendering an average of 19.9 points per game.

Laramie Holds Slight Lead in Series History

Friday night marks the 51st meeting in the all-time series between the two schools. Laramie won last year’s meeting 24-0 at home, taking a 26-24 lead in the overall series history. LHS has won three in a row at home against the Trojans. KOWB Radio will provide live coverage of the game from Okie Blanchard Stadium, with David Settle and Dan Bleak calling the action on 1290 AM, through the KOWB app, online, and via smart speakers.
